Giants eye the playoffs for 3rd consecutive year

Will we see another sensational season from the Lotte Giants this year?

Many fans certainly seem to think so. As does the club itself, of course.

The team has adopted the catchphrase Fighting to the top, 2010 and aims to advance to the post-season for the third consecutive year.

The roster is packed with stars and promising prospects. New foreigner pitcher Ryan Sadowski is attracting a wealth of interest this year. During a practice match against the Japan Softbank Hawks on Feb. 28, Sadowski recorded three strikeouts in two innings and did not allow any hits ? an impressive outing by any measure.

The right-handed hurler can throw 150-kilometer fastballs and has a lineup of pitches that includes breaking balls and sinkers. He is expected to work his way into the starting rotation this year. The beginning of the season could be tough for the Giants pitching staff, as the teams ace ? Son Min-han ? is out with an injury and could miss a significant number of games. At the same time, Cho Jung-hun is unsure if he can pitch in the opener. The rest of the lineup is similar to last year, though Lee Dae-ho will shift between first base and third base depending on the situation. Lees exact position will vary based on whether the Giants use right-handed batter Jeong Bo-myung or left-handed batter Park Jong-yun against opposing pitchers. Karim Garcia and Kim Joo-chan will roam the outfield, and theres a good chance Lee Seung-hwa will join them there again this season. However, Son A-seop, Lee In-koo, Park Jung-jun, Jeon Jun-woo and Hwang Sung-yong are also looking for a chance to take the third starting outfield spot.
