Preparations for Lions Clubs meet on track

Volunteers recruited, accommodation prepared and tours lined up

Preparations are fully on track for the largest-ever private convention to be held in Busan City, the Lions Clubs International Convention 2012. Last month, the city completed recruiting 500 volunteers and it is now working to make sure the accommodations and shuttle buses are ready to take care of VIPs and visitors from around the world. An official Lions Clubs preparation team is also taking action to make sure event is a runaway success.

The convention will take place from June 22 to 26 at Haeundae BEXCO and nearby areas.

Plans are also afoot to complete construction on the 2nd BEXCO and main hall before the start of the convention so there is enough room to accommodate the thousands of visitors. Busan needs a total of 7,500 rooms, based on two people sharing one room.

“We have secured enough rooms as planned from hotels in Busan City, motels in Haeundae and 1,300 rooms from hotels in the Gyeonju region, such as the Hilton,” said a member of the local preparation team. The city has also prepared 111 shuttle buses as well as half day tours, cruises and night tours. “We hope this will become a chance to develop Busan to the next level,” said Cho Seong-ho, chief of Busan City’s preparation team.

The convention will include an international parade on June 23, when 15,000 foreign participants will march along Haeundae in their traditional clothes.
