‘Yacht conventions’ to be held at sea

VIPs and MICE participants given top priority

BEXCO, the city’s top exhibition and convention center, plans to start a yacht convention business. As such, it began operation its Yacht B catamaran at 1:30 p.m. on April 5.

The yacht can serve as a venue for small-scale meetings with buyers and other events held at sea. BEXCO is experimenting with this format for the first time in Korea.

The 52-foot yacht (16 meters long and 8 meters wide) can accommodate 29 people. Inside is a small meeting room outfitted with a projector and screen. The interior was designed using the natural silk used during the 2005 APEC Summit Talk, adding more elegance to the room.

The name of the yacht was chosen through a citizen contest, with B representing the first images than come to mind when thinking of Busan, such as “blue,” “beautiful” and “business.”

The yacht conventions will target those teams visiting the city ahead of major international meeting as well as key decision makers. It will be mainly used to entertain foreign and local VIPs and participants at MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Convention & Exhibition) events.

The catamaran will serve two basic functions: private yacht conventions and public yacht tours.

The former use is for presentations, business meetings, conventions, due diligence tours, buyer meetings, special parties, proposals and other small conventions, and customized rental programs. The cost is 500,000 won ($440) per hour (1 to 4 people) and 3 million won per day. Convention equipment, such as the projector and screen, will be available for free.

Meanwhile, yacht tours will cost 60,000 won per hour for adults.

The yacht will leave port five times a day from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., touring Gwangalli Beach (Gwangan Bridge, Igidae), Haeundae Beach, Dongbaek Island, Nurimaru and Marine City.

This year, the vessel will be used as a marine tour product to promote the city as a specialized marine hub. Key events include the Busan International Motor Show and Lions Clubs Int’l Convention.
