    Stacked calendar of events lined up for May

    Busan International Motor Show and Busan Int’l Performing Arts Festival among the highlights

    In line with Busan’s fame as an international convention city, a number of large-scale meetings have been scheduled for May.

    The Busan International Performing Arts Festival kicks off the calendar of events on May 4, followed by the International Pole Vault Meeting Busan 2012, Busan Contents Market and Busan International Motor Show for a veritable parade of international festivals.

    test11Busan International Performing Arts Festival (May 4 to 13)

    This is a great opportunity to see some of the most popular plays from East and West. This year’s BIPAF is taking place with “Hello, Asia” as the concept. A total of 12 plays have been invited from seven countries and they will be held at performance halls and on outdoor stages in different parts of the city. There will be street shows, 10-minute plays, BIPAF workshops, a dedicated BIPAF Zone and other special events prepared. (051-802-8003)

    International Pole Vault Meeting Busan 2012 (May 5 to 6)

    The pole vault has now become a specialized sport in Busan City and the International Pole Vault Meeting Busan 2012 will take place from May 5 to 6 at the special outdoor stadium of Mt. Yongdu Park. Russia, Australia and Kazakhstan, which are all strong at pole vault, as well as Asia’s best Japan will participate. About 60 athletes and coaches from nine countries are expected to take part this year.

    Busan Contents Market (May 10 to 12)

     BCM is a festival focused on selling and purchasing media contents from around the world, including dramas, documentaries and animations. It is due to take place from May 10 to 12 at BEXCO.

    This year, 590 companies from 47 countries will participate. Programs include the BCM Market, a briefing session on the cultural contents fund investment plan, and the BCM Academy. (051-747-6440)

    Busan International Motor Show (May 24 to June 3)

    “The voyage of the green car across the ocean” is the theme of this year’s Busan International Motor Show, which will take place from May 24 to June 3 at BEXCO in Haeundae. This year’s auto show will be the largest to date. So far, Hyundai, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Samsung and Ssangyong have confirmed their participation, as has Daewoo Bus. As for imported brands, a total of 14 complete car brands will attend including BMW, Audi, Infiniti, Nissan, Lexus, Toyota, MINI, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Lincoln and Volkswagen. Other events planned for the car show include trade consulting seminars, an explanation session for bulk buyers, a car audio festival, and a remote control car racing contest. (051-740-3541)
