    Int'l Cruise Terminal

    witnesses historic opening

The Busan International Cruise Terminal saw its historic opening with the expectation that it will play an important role in promoting Busan as the tourist hub of Northeast Asia and the world's major maritime metropolis.

The terminal building located on a reclaimed site in Dongsam-dong, Yeongdo District, spent 5.3 billion won ($5.7 million) of the buget of the Busan Port Authority,  or BPA, to have a total floor space of 2,200 square meters.

The cruise ship pier, 11 meters in depth and 360 meters in length, can accommodate a ship of up to 80,000 tons.

The opening ceremony of the terminal took place April 2 with Busan City and BPA. The MS Statendam, a Holland cruise ship of 55,000 tons, was its first customer.

The ship arrived at the terminal with 1,800 tourists. The cruise ship visited Busan three times last year and plans to visit the city twice this year with 3,600 travelers on April 8 and 30.

In welcoming the first customer, the city presented a folk performance and gave souvenirs to the passengers.
